SHAH ALAM - Prominent anti-corruption watchdog Rasuah Busters has voiced concern over the alleged misuse of government funds for electoral purposes, calling it a stark violation of democratic principles and election regulations.

The group highlighted several critical points regarding the integrity of elections and the role of governmental bodies in ensuring fairness and transparency throughout the electoral process.

"The Election Commission (EC) has implemented numerous regulations governing both general and by-elections, serving as integral pillars of our democracies," Rasuah Busters said in a statement, emphasising the importance of electoral regulations in upholding democratic values.

While acknowledging the existence of formal rules, Rasuah Busters stressed the need for politicians to adhere to ethical standards that go beyond mere compliance with regulations.

"Beyond these regulations, politicians must adhere to ethical standards and behaviours," the statement read.

The recent announcement by Housing and Local Government (KPKT) Minister Nga Kor Ming concerning a RM5.21 million upgrade of Kuala Kubu Bharu, was cited as a blatant disregard for established guidelines, irrespective of any justifications offered.

"The utilisation of federal and state funds during elections or close to an impending election has long been a source of contention," the statement highlighted, pointing out the ethical concerns surrounding the timing of such announcements.

Expressing disappointment over the alleged breach of election rules, Rasuah Busters labelled it as a betrayal of the people's trust and confidence.
