SHAH ALAM - The success of the police in apprehending the shooting suspect at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) Terminal 1, Sepang, demonstrates the effectiveness of the intelligence and operational capabilities of the team.

Former inspector-general of police Tan Sri Musa Hassan said it was the best action by the police, particularly the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), to track down the suspect before apprehending and bringing them to court for a remand.

"This simultaneously enhances public confidence and makes them feel safer.

"I hope the performance and efficiency of the police force continue," he told Sinar on Tuesday.

He said all members of the force were advised to continue their commitment and duties with high integrity.

Musa said he hoped the top management of the police would continue to provide encouragement and motivation to officers and members to carry out their duties excellently.

In the incident around 1.20 am on Sunday, a 38-year-old suspect fired two shots at the KLIA Arrival Hall, targeting his wife who was waiting for Umrah pilgrims.

However, one shot missed, while the other hit the wife's personal bodyguard.

The suspect then fled before being arrested by the police in Kota Bharu, Kelantan, on Monday.

The suspect had since been remanded for seven days until April 22.

Initial police investigations suggest the incident was motivated by personal matters between the suspect and his wife.
