KOTA BHARU - "I need seven lawyers to represent me."
That was what the suspect in the shooting case at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) Terminal 1 Arrivals Hall, Sepang, Selangor said after being remanded in custody for seven days at the Magistrate's Court, here, on Tuesday.
The remand order against the 38-year-old suspect was made before the Magistrate Rais Imran Hamid.
The suspect was remanded to assist the investigation in accordance with Section 8 of the Firearms (Heavier Penalty) Act 1971 and Section 8 (a) of the Arms Act 1960.
His remand period is effective from today to 22.
He was also subjected to a remand order to assist in the investigation of Regulation 25(1)(o) of the National Registration Regulations (PPPN) 1990 for having another individual's identity card and Section 108(3)(f) of the Road Transport Act 1987 (using fake vehicle plate numbers).
The suspect clad in a purple lockup shirt was taken using a Black Maria van and arrived at the court at 8.25am.
The suspect was heavily escorted by a police team from D9 team from the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the Kelantan Police Contingent Headquarters (IPK).
He was then escorted by the police to leave the court premises at 9.45am after completing the remand process.
Yesterday, the man was arrested at 3pm in Jalan Bayam, here, in front of a private hospital about 300 metres away from IPK Kelantan.
It was understood that there was a struggle during the arrest and an Austrian Glock 19 pistol containing a live bullet was also seized from him.
In the 1.30am incident on Sunday, a bodyguard for the suspect's wife was seriously injured when a bullet hit the victim's stomach.
The suspect's wife – who was the real target – survived the incident.
