YAN - A dolphin weighing approximately 220 kilogrammes was found dead on the shores of Pantai Ruat, Yan, near here, on Sunday.

District Civil Defence Force (APM) Officer Lieutenant (PA) Zul Izzi Zulkifli said that they received information about the discovery of the dolphin carcass at about 5pm.

He said a team of six officers rushed to the location where the carcass of the dolphin, estimated to be 1.8 metres long, was found.

"Upon arrival at the scene, the team found a dolphin on the beach, suspected to have been hit by a boat propeller.

"We have informed the Kedah State Fisheries Department," he said in a statement on Monday.

He stated that action was taken to relocate the dolphin carcass to another location for further action.

Zul Izzi stated that this was the first case of a dolphin discovery managed by the APM to date.
