'Empower #MZB365, strengthen unity'
'Let us not allow technology and social media to ignite discord among Malaysians.'
SHAH ALAM - The boycott campaign initiated by certain factions must not escalate to the extent of sowing discord and fracturing inter-ethnic relations in the nation.
Sinar Harian Group Editor-in-Chief Zamri Rambli said the situation worsens when such actions lead to extremism, endangering the safety of others.
"This land is our home, where we establish roots, forge bonds, and become a united community.
"Despite our diverse backgrounds in religion, ethnicity, culture, and language, it is these differences that render us unique and collectively strong as #WeAreMalaysia.
"Let us not allow technology and social media to ignite discord among Malaysians.
"We should be the ones harnessing social media, not succumbing to its influence. Together, let us champion Malaysian Harmony," he said in response to the #MZB365 campaign on Saturday.
#MZB365 represents a collaborative effort among five local media outlets initiated by a coalition of non-governmental organisations (NGOs) and Civil Society Organisations (CSOs).
Meanwhile, the Astro Awani Chief Editor Ashwad Ismail stressed the importance of commemorating the resilience of Malaysia's multiethnic society.
Through the observance of 'Maaf Zahir Batin 365,' he advocated for the elimination of animosity, the promotion of understanding and respect, and the preservation of the peace that the nation has long cherished.
"While we witness the scars of conflict and strife in crisis-ridden nations, such turmoil remains foreign to Malaysia.
"Unity and harmony amidst cultural and ethnic diversity serve as the foundation for Malaysia's peace and prosperity," he said.
In a related matter, Star Media Group's chief content officer Esther Ng affirmed that #MZB365 provides a fitting platform for the media to exhibit solidarity, uphold harmony, security, and rational discourse.
"I take pride in being part of the media landscape that boldly advocates for unity through our platforms.
"We are all sailing in the same boat towards a shared goal. Let us journey together," she said.
Echoing these sentiments, Sin Chew Daily Chief Editor Kuik Cheng Kang, emphasised that safeguarding Malaysia's cultural diversity constitutes the publication's core principle and editorial guideline.
He expressed hope that the community would unite in promoting #MZB365, which seeks to integrate the Maaf Zahir Batin culture into everyday life.
