SHAH ALAM - Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim should call an emergency meeting of the National Security Council (MKN) following the third attack involving the convenience store chain KK Mart.

DAP chairman Lim Guan Eng said that it was important to discuss the situation and take immediate steps to avoid any trigger elements capable of threatening peace and harmony in a multi-racial and multi-religious society.

He said despite the royal decrees by the Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Ibrahim and the Sultan of Perak Sultan Nazrin Muizzuddin Shah, accompanied by stern warnings from the Prime Minister, the Home Minister and senior officers of the police, the third KK Mart store became the target of a molotov cocktail attack.

"His Majesty has previously ordered that all parties stop taking advantage of this issue, while ordering that it should be handed over to the authorities.

"His Majesty also said that he has ordered that appropriate action be taken, so there is no need for any party to ignite the flames of anger.

"However, the Umno Youth chief (Dr Muhamad Akmal Saleh) refuses to pay attention to the royal order and continues to boycott KK Mart.

“This is a very irresponsible and inappropriate attitude for a leader of the Melaka state government who is part of the unity government in Putrajaya," he said in a statement today.

Lim added even though Akmal has denied any political motivation and condemned the attack on KK Mart, the boycott did not stop the violent attack on KK Mart by dangerous extremist elements.

Previously, he said the owner of KK Mart had sincerely apologised for his negligence and would face criminal charges in court by the authorities as ordered by the Yang di-Pertuan Agong.

"It is more worrying this time when the KK Mart branch that was attacked is in Sarawak, a state that is considered the most harmonious between religions, a state that is famous for practicing unity in diversity and the home state of the owner of KK Mart.

"Obviously this shows that there is no safe place in Malaysia from attacks on KK Mart branches.

"Since the national leadership of Umno has also decided to support the actions of the Umno Youth chief to continue this boycott, the Federal Government must take steps to prevent any action that fuels the anger from becoming more dangerous and out of control," he said.
