Decision to reveal Tabung Haji RCI findings lies with govt - Group MD

KUALA LUMPUR - The decision on whether to disclose the report of the Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) regarding the management and operation of the Lembaga Tabung Haji (TH) to the public will be decided by the government.

Tabung Haji Group Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer Syed Hamadah Syed Othman said any decision regarding the matter lies under government policy.

"It is the government's right to publicise (the RCI report) to the public or not but on TH's side, we have responded to all the recommendations made in the RCI to the government," he said during the press conference after announcing TH's profit distribution on Tuesday.

He said this when asked to comment on the development of the RCI since the report was completed in July 2022.

In 2021, the government received the approval of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri'ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah to establish RCI following the decision of the Cabinet Meeting on July 14, 2021 and Oct 8, 2021.

It was established to carry out an investigation and prepare a report to be presented to His Majesty within six months of its establishment.

Meanwhile, when asked about the development of whether the minimum rate limit for new Hajj registration has been decided or otherwise, Syed Hamadah said that the matter is being discussed.

"This matter is in TH's study to increase savings to a higher rate than the current RM1,300.

"However, for now, there is no final decision yet. God willing, in the near future we will make an announcement," he said.
