'Tengku Zafrul's decision violates Umno's procedure'

SHAH ALAM - Kota Raja Umno division chief Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz should have discussed with the Umno Selangor Liaison Body chairman Datuk Megat Zulkarnain Omardin before deciding to resign as the Treasurer of the state Umno.

Selangor Umno information chief Datuk Mohd Zaidi Mohd Zain said he was surprised by the sudden resignation decision made by the Investment, Trade, and Industry (MITI) Ministry through social media platforms on Monday.

The Bangi division Umno chief considered Tengku Zafrul's action to be against party procedures for not informing the state leadership of his intention to resign earlier.

"Tengku Zafrul should have had a discussion or written a formal letter to Datuk Megat Zulkarnain as the Selangor Umno chairman before deciding to resign if he wanted to express dissatisfaction.

"This action is important because Selangor Umno is like one big family. Any internal problems should be resolved through discussions and negotiations," he told Sinar Premium on Monday.

Zaidi further said that he is still wondering about the cause behind Tengku Zafrul's allegations against Umno Selangor.

He said this because he believed that Umno Selangor has not faced any internal conflicts so far.

"All Umno Selangor leaders, including Datuk Megat Zulkarnain, have never had any problems or misunderstandings with Tengku Zafrul," he added.

Yesterday, Tengku Zafrul said he had to resign as the Selangor Umno treasurer because the party's resurgence in the state was seen as lacklustre and not in line with the theme at the Umno headquarters.

"I have seen how Umno President Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and the national leadership tirelessly plan the party's resurgence at the central level.

"However, as far as the effectiveness of the central planning is concerned, in Selangor, the implementation is lacklustre and there are times when it is not in line with the theme at the central level," he said in a statement.

Meanwhile, Zaidi also questioned Tengku Zafrul's reason for questioning Umno Selangor's commitment to realising the party's resurgence plan at the central level.

He said that Tengku Zafrul rarely participates in Selangor Liaison Body meetings, Umno except for the initial stages of his appointment.

"If he had attended those meetings, Tengku Zafrul should have been able to voice objections or question various decisions made by Umno Selangor so far.

"At the very least, Tengku Zafrul could have discussed with Datuk Megat Zulkarnain because they often meet during Federal Government programs in Putrajaya as the Umno Selangor chairman is the Political Secretary to Ahmad Zahid who is also the Deputy Prime Minister.

"I believe the assumptions and wild accusations made by Tengku Zafrul against Umno Selangor are completely untrue. We also need to investigate the real reasons why Tengku Zafrul made the decision because it is highly possible that he was influenced by third-party incitement," he added.
