Model charged with murder of lover claims to be suffering from bipolar disorder
KUALA LANGAT - A part-time model was charged at the Telok Datok magistrate's court, today with murdering her boyfriend.
A. Tamilselvi, 26, who was clad in a purple lockup attire, nodded to indicate she understood the charge after it was read out before magistrate Maslinda Selamat.
However, no plea was recorded as the case was under the jurisdiction of the High Court.
According to the charge sheet, the accused murdered V. Gawsigan, also 26, in a residential unit at Rimbayu Perennia in Telok Panglima Garang, here, at about 5.30am on March 11.
The former medical student was charged under Section 302 of the Penal Code which carries the death penalty, if convicted.
During the proceedings, her lawyer Ethan Tan requested for his client to be referred to the hospital for a mental evaluation.
"I understand that my client has bipolar disorder (BPD), in fact, she also seemed unable to understand when I explained to her about the day of the incident.
"The accused also has a heart condition and relies on a battery to regulate her heartbeat," he said.
However, deputy public prosecutor Khadijah Amir Hamzah did not offer any bail as it was a non-bailable offence.
She said no documents were submitted by the defence to confirm that the accused was diagnosed with BPD or suffereing from a heart problem.
Maslinda then rejected the defence's application.
"The lawyer needs to submit documents related to the mental and physical health of the accused on the next mention date," she said.
The court set April 25 for mention and submission of the toxicology, autopsy, chemical and medical reports.
On Tuesday, it was reported that a man died believed to have been stabbed by his girlfriend who was a part-time model.
It is believed that jealousy triggered the incident, as the victim, who worked as a part-time photographer, was accused of cheating on the suspect.
The 26-year-old suspect was arrested by the police at the Cyberjaya Hospital area at 12.30pm after taking her boyfriend to the hospital for treatment.
The doctor administered cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) to the victim, but there was no sign of response.
