AYER KEROH - Melaka Chief Minister Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh lauded Umno Youth Chief Dr Muhamad Akmal Saleh's unwavering stance on the controversy surrounding socks bearing the word "Allah," affirming its grounded basis.
Ab Rauf highlighted Dr Akmal's steadfastness as a reflection of the sentiments resonating among Muslims nationwide, given the issue's profound impact.
"The inclusion of the word 'Allah' on socks has deeply offended Malaysian Muslims, emphasising the necessity of mutual respect for religious beliefs.
"Dr Akmal's resolute stance echoes the collective voice of Muslims, stressing the importance of upholding religious sanctity amidst political discourse," Ab Rauf said.
Speaking at the Ramadan Donation Ceremony and Iftar Gathering in Melaka Tengah, Ab Rauf stressed the pragmatic resolution of the issue to prevent its recurrence.
"This should not happen in our country because we have agreed in the social context to respect each other, and this awareness needs to be enhanced.
"(When) the word Allah is not placed in the right place, it definitely offends the feelings of Muslims because religious matters are very sensitive," he added.
Earlier, Dr Akmal's firm stance on the controversy, including initiating boycott efforts, 'provoked' reactions from several DAP leaders, including DAP Secretary-General Anthony Loke Siew Fook.
Dr Akmal was also reported to remain steadfast in demanding action regarding the controversy of socks bearing the word " Allah" and emphasised that he did not need DAP's approval for that matter." - AWANI
