SHAH ALAM - Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) describes claims that there is a trend of mid-level members and leaders migrating to opposing parties and the erosion of their trust in the existing leadership as wild accusations.

Bersatu Federal Territory Information Head Tun Faisal Ismail Aziz said National Council of Professors Senior Fellow Dr Muhammad Asri Mohd Ali needed to show research data that could support the allegations if the matter was substantiated.

He explained that there were two things that showed the leaders of Bersatu were still together with the party leadership.

"First, during the 2023 Bersatu Annual General Meeting, that is when the delegates unanimously rejected the President's announcement, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin not to defend the position of President in the upcoming election.

"Secondly during the Extraordinary General Meeting (EGM), when amendments to the party constitution related to members of Parliament and State Assembly Members who disobeyed the party's decision received the unanimous support of the delegates.

"In these two meetings, it has been proven that grassroots leaders still support the leadership of Tan Sri Muhyiddin and strongly oppose the actions of members of Parliament who act to support the Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim," he told Sinar on Saturday.

He said this to comment on Asri's claim that the migration trend of Bersatu members including the party's seven representatives who declared their support for Anwar was symbolic of a grassroots 'vote of no confidence' in Muhyiddin's leadership.

Following this, Tun Faisal urged the National Professors Council to reassess Asri's position in the organisation due to his views which were not in line with the majority of the people and members of Bersatu.

He added that he also asked the Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail to immediately approve the amendment to the Bersatu Constitution and to urge the Dewan Rakyat Speaker and the Speaker of the State Assembly to immediately vacate the party's treacherous seven representative seats so that the by-elections could be held.

Tun Faisal said Asri needed to acknowledge the fact that Anwar and the government today were not the government chosen by the people, but the government was formed through betrayal of the people's votes, threats against BN Members of Parliament who were not with the Umno President, fraud and manipulation.

"This government is being defended not with performance, but with fraud, threats and bribery," he stressed.
