THE public expresses concern about the harrowing experience faced by a 28-year-old Spanish female tourist who was gang-raped by seven local men in India last Friday.

A viral video circulating on social media shows the victim, whose identity remains undisclosed, displaying bruises on her face, while her husband was also beaten several times with a motorcycle helmet.

A travel blogger with over 200,000 followers on Instagram recounted how they were attacked while camping in the Dumka district of Jharkhand state, located about 300 kilometres (km) from Ranchi.

According to a Facebook post, some shared their holiday experiences in the country and expressed disappointment with the legal system in India.

Meanwhile, netizens have advised the public to reconsider before travelling to any high-risk countries with dangerous threats.

They said India is an unsafe location for tourism even when using agency services due to the high crime rate.

Meanwhile, a Facebook user shared a positive experience when visiting India in 2020 but advised travellers to move in groups to avoid becoming victims of crime.

Regardless of individual experiences, such crimes should be prevented.
