E-hailing driver assaulted allegedly for being rude

The victim almost collided with a motorcyclist while trying to reverse his car.

KUALA LUMPUR – After allegedly being rude, an e-hailing driver was injured after being assaulted by a group of individuals in an incident near Taman Bukit Cheras here, as shown in a viral video on Friday.

Cheras district police chief Assistant Commissioner Zam Halim Jamaluddin said that an investigation found the incident occurred at about 6.30pm on February 26.

He said the incident happened when the victim almost collided with a motorcyclist while trying to reverse his car.

"The motorcyclist raised his hand to signal dissatisfaction and left the scene.

“In the meantime, three local men from a nearby stall approached the victim, accusing him of being rude to the motorcyclist," he said in a statement on Friday.

Zam Halim added that the three suspects then attacked the victim, causing him to sustain injuries, but the incident was successfully diffused by the public at the scene.

"An investigation is being conducted under Section 324 of the Penal Code, and a detailed investigation is underway to identify all suspects involved in this incident," he said.

A video of the incident had circulated on social media since Friday.
