SHAH ALAM - Tasek Gelugor Member of Parliament Datuk Wan Saiful Wan Jan revealed that he was instructed to contact the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) after receiving a message from his staff following disclosures about an invitation to support the Prime Minister.

Wan Saiful, who is also a Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) Supreme Leadership member said he would comply with the directive given by the MACC.

"Within an hour of my speech, I received a message from an MACC officer asking me to contact them. I will comply," he said in a post on social media, Facebook, on Wednesday.

Earlier, the media reported that he had been contacted by several individuals who pressured him to express support for Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

The Member of Parliament from Perikatan Nasional (PN) claimed that after being contacted several times, he 'relented' to hold a meeting, starting on Jan 17 at a hotel in Bukit Bintang, Kuala Lumpur.

He alleged that in several series of meetings, the individuals offered rewards in return for support for the Prime Minister, including a parliamentary allocation of RM1.7 million.

However, Wan Saiful stated in his statement that he expected the disclosure to be denied.

"It is okay, we understand they have to spin," he said.

At the same time, he also questioned the actions that should be taken to stop the misuse of public funds as bait for Bersatu Members of Parliament.

He clarified that it would be better if the money was used to safeguard the welfare of the people instead of being used as bait.
