Notice sent to police, rally is on - Bersih
The submission of this notice is in response to KL police chief’s statement regarding the issue of notices under the Peaceful Assembly Act 2021.
SHAH ALAM - Bersih has submitted a notice to the police to conduct a protest march and deliver a memorandum for '100 per cent reform demand rally' that will take place tomorrow.
Its chairman Faisal Aziz said the notice was submitted to the Dang Wangi district police headquarters in Kuala Lumpur today.
"Asraf Sharafi Mohd Azhar and I representing Bersih have completed submitting a notification to the Dang Wangi District Police Headquarters regarding the protest at Parliament demanding #100PercentReform tomorrow," he posted on X.
The notice submission came after Kuala Lumpur police chief Datuk Allaudeen Abdul Majid's recent statement saying that the police did not receive any notification of the assembly and strict action would be taken against all those involved in the gathering, in accordance with the provisions provided.
"The submission of this notice is in response to KL police chief’s statement regarding the issue of notices under the Peaceful Assembly Act 2021," he added.
Bersih rally takes place tomorrow in front of Plaza Tugu Negara at 8am and participants were urged to wear black or yellow outfits.
The steering committee said they chose to hold a protest on Tuesday because it marks first day of Dewan Rakyat debate.
"The debate session starts at 10am, holding a rally tomorrow will catch Member of Parliament's attention before entering the Parliament," it said.
Among the demands the committee would ask include Pakatan Harapan's manifesto in separating the roles of Attorney-General and Public Prosecutor in the 15th General Election (GE15).
"However, as of Dec 2023, Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said said the government was doing a thorough study on the matter," it said in a post.
