From Disney Star to Aerospace Queen, Bridgit Mendler paves way for women in tech
Mendler will be the CEO of Northwood Space and her husband Griffin Cleverly will take on the role of chief technology officer.
SHAH ALAM - Former Disney Channel star and singer Bridgit Mendler, known for her roles in 'Good Luck Charlie' and 'Wizards of Waverly Place' is adding a Chief Executive Officer (CEO) title to her career list with her satellite data startup Northwood Space.
Taking to X, Medler announced her move by posting 'Expect the unexpected'.
"Expect the unexpected. So excited to announce our $6.3M seed led by Founders Fund," she posted.
It is learned that Mendler would be the CEO of the company and her husband Griffin Cleverly would take on the role of chief technology officer.
The Northwood Space already received $6.3 million (RM30 million) according to Mendler's post in which she said she hopes to create 'a data highway between Earth and space'.
"At Northwood Space we have our sights on building a data highway between earth and space. We are designing shared ground infrastructure from first principles to expand access to space.
"We have a lot of work ahead of us but that's the fun part," she added.
Revealing to CNBC, Mendler said the concept of Northwood arose during her time in New Hampshire amid the Covid-19 lockdown.
"While everybody else was making their sourdough starters, we were building antennas out of random crap we could find at Home Depot. For me, why the ground side matters because it actually is about bringing the impacts of space home to people.
"But it wasn't until she started working at the Federal Communications Commission in 2022 that she realised her new path," she was reported saying to CNBC.
Mendler's recent shocking announcement garned over 23,000 likes on X, with fans congratulating her choice of career path.
"Damn that’s a great career path you’ve got there! Watched your shows with my kids while they were growing up... the Lemonade Mouth soundtrack was quite catchy. You obviously have boundless talent.

Northwood Space, focuses on building a data highway between earth and space, aimed to meet the needs of today’s space industry, the one-lane rickety road for space data needs to adapt to a ten-lane highway routing continuous traffic across the globe.
