Aman 1 constantly on air now, is it beneficial for the police’s already tarnished repo?

It should not be a one-man show.

If you've been scrolling through social media platforms lately, you may have come across our top cop, Tan Sri Razarudin Hussain, making surprise visits and calls to police stations.

When the first video of the Inspector General of Police surfaces, my initial thought was... this is it. After a series of police misconducts, the boss must have reached a breaking point and decided to personally oversee and inspect the officers and personnel of all ranks.

As subsequent videos of his surprise visits to various stations emerged, it became evident that Razarudin was earnest in his efforts to repair the police force's reputation in the public eye, ensuring that his personnel are constantly reminded to work with integrity and within the Sang Saka Biru guidelines.

His initiatives are commendable, demonstrating Razarudin's proactive approach towards accountability, transparency, and the efficient operation of the police force especially after the police force had been wrapped up in corrupt, rape and misuse of power cases just in the last few months by errant officers.

These visits could significantly boost the morale of personnel, as they see senior leadership taking an active interest in their work, a quality not always exhibited by leaders.

Through the posted videos, Razarudin can be seen engaging with personnel at the district control centre, teaching them simple yet effective ways to track their patrols and carry out their duties efficiently.

Not only does this demonstrate Razarudin's concern for his officers, but it also highlights his willingness and knowledge to perform even the most mundane tasks, despite holding the highest office at Bukit Aman.

The top cop's surprise visits also help ensure compliance, ensuring that officers adhere to standard operating procedures, protocols and ethical standards at all times.

The frequent visits to district police stations would also enable him to identify issues through direct communication with his personnel, thereby pinpointing any shortcomings or areas for improvement, whether related to equipment, facilities, or personnel.

Undoubtedly, such communication highlights a commitment to accountability and transparency, which can help foster trust between the police force and the community at large.

This can be seen through positive feedback received from the public in the comment sections of the posted videos, with many praising Razarudin's actions.

Social media users enjoy the videos depicting police personnel's reactions as Razarudin makes unexpected appearances in public or uses communication sets to announce 'Aman 1 on the air', with many likening it to the scenario of a company's CEO unexpectedly inspecting employees' work on what was assumed to be a typical day."

Aside from the surprise visits, there was also a massive reshuffle within the police force on Thursday, involving 45 transfers and promotions for senior cops, with the most notable involving Narcotics Crime Investigation Department director Datuk Seri Mohd Kamarudin Md Din and Penang police chief Datuk Khaw Kok Chin.

Kuala Lumpur police chief Datuk Allaudeen Abdul Majid, who is retiring on April 1, will be replaced by Criminal Investigation Department deputy director (investigation/legal) Datuk Rusdi Mohd Isa.

Now, this is surely part of the top cop’s mission to restore the police force’s honour and public trust especially when he pledged to rid the bad apples within the force.

What Razarudin did surely has an impact on the public perception, but it should not be a one-man show.

The police’s directors, state chief police officers all the way to the bottom need to clean up their act in order for Razarudin’s mission to succeed.

After all, the police force has always been highly scrutinised as it has always been the frontline that uphold the law and maintains public order.

Hence, while Aman 1 is doing the best he can to revive the police force, it is crucial for all of the men in blue to operate with the highest standards of professionalism and integrity to gain what was lost when the errant officers spoilt the public image.
