Make summons payment cashless - Gema
Online payment systems can close the gap for corruption to happen.
SHAH ALAM – Pertubuhan Pemuda Gema Malaysia (Gema) proposes that the law enforcement authorities conduct summonses directly through online payment system to curb the symptoms of corruption in summons payment matters in this country.
Its Vice President Mohammad Amar Masuri said online payment systems such as QR Code scanning, e-wallet, debit or credit were done so that there was no cash payment, which would close the gap for corruption to happen.
He said the public needed to understand the system so that they could avoid receiving bribes from any party.
"This dark culture must be stopped, especially for the young people who can still be shaped.
"They better understand the implications of bribery which will ultimately harm themselves, their families and the country," he said when contacted by Sinar.
On Jan 31, it was reported that two men who worked as ice agents and ice factory supervisors were remanded for seven days on suspicion of offering and giving bribes amounting to RM500 to the Road Transport Department (RTD) enforcers in Seremban.
Investigation revealed that the two suspects committed the offence to prevent the lorry driver who had been arrested by RTD officers from being prosecuted under the Road Transport Act 1987 (Act 333) for not having valid driver's license (CDL), no vocational license ( GDL) and expired road tax.
Amar added that such crimes happen so often that it was customary to give money to law enforcement agencies to avoid being sued.
"Many other enforcement agencies are often seen asking for bribes from offenders so that they can be released without any wrongdoing," he said.
