'Did I ask for the motorcycle that was given to me?' - Derrick Gan
Abang Rambut Perang embraces responsibility of viral stardom
SHAH ALAM - Derrick Gan, a passionate supporter of Harimau Malaya, has responded to critics questioning the motorcycle gifts he received after his viral story of watching the national squad in the Asian Cup in Qatar.
In a Facebook post, Derrick addressed the criticism, particularly a screenshot questioning if he was a 'poor person' deserving multiple motorcycle gifts.
"Have I ever mentioned that I am poor?
"Did I ask the cameraman to capture my visuals?
"Did I ask for the motorcycle that was given to me?
"Who would have thought that I would become viral?
"Say whatever you want, but don't say things that didn't come out of my mouth.
"What didn't come out of my mouth is a conspiracy.
"But, of course, all these happens because I am in the spotlight.
"I accept anything said to me, whether positive or negative," he said in the post.
Derrick, famously known as 'abang rambut perang', gained attention when he expressed his willingness to sell his motorcycle to watch all the actions involving the national squad in the Asian Cup.
He became a sensation after a video capturing him in tears while celebrating Malaysia's second goal against South Korea went viral, resonating with national supporters.
In a related matter, Derrick has expressed his openness to collaboration with those interested in riding on his newfound fame, but with a condition – it should be done for the benefit of those in need.
"Contact me and we can discuss it, but only by giving it back to the public.
"You can organise a competition or give away your products.
"Take advantage of this not only to promote your brand, your company, but also to help others in need," he added.
