Tun M mocks Anwar's anti-corruption claims, highlights alleged untouchables
Dr Mahathir quips about decades-old financial records.
SHAH ALAM - Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad launches a scathing attack on Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim's handling of corruption in Malaysia, using sarcasm and selective examples to question the government's commitment to tackling the issue.
On X, Dr Mahathir sarcastically congratulated Anwar for "successfully reducing corruption," citing several instances deemed non-corrupt by the authorities:
- Dropping 47 corruption cases against Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.
- Dismissing allegations of bribery used to secure government support from opposition MPs.
- Clearing MACC Chief Commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki of wrongdoing despite owning millions in shares through a family member's account.
- Ignoring investigations into individuals named in the Pandora Papers leak.
He also slammed the investigations against them for alleged wealth possession and failure to declare assets within 30 days, even in the absence of concrete evidence.
Mocking the requirement to submit decades-old financial records, Dr Mahathir quipped, "These Tuns should have kept their nasi lemak and coffee receipts for the last 42 years."
He further questioned the short compliance deadline and the potential five-year jail term and RM100,000 fine for non-compliance.
