Hamzah for president, Bersatu MPs demand
Bukit Gantang MP Datuk Syed Abu Hussin Hafiz endorses Hamzah Zainuddin's leadership
DIANA AZIS AND QURRATUL’AINA QUDDUSPUCHONG - Several Bersatu MPs are expressing their desire for the party's secretary-general Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainuddin to become the new president.
Bukit Gantang MP Datuk Syed Abu Hussin Hafiz Syed Abdul Fasal said the Larut MP has significant potential to lead the party.
"Hamzah is also willing, capable and qualified to lead Bersatu," he said during a press conference at Baitul Husna here today.
Syed Abu Hussin Hafiz also urged the leadership of Bersatu to declare support for Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim to assist the administration of the Prime Minister.
He named Hamzah, Datuk Seri Ronald Kiandee (Beluran), Datuk Seri Ikmal Hisham Abdul Aziz (Tanah Merah), Datuk Mas Ermieyati Samsudin (Masjid Tanah), and Hulu Terengganu MP Datuk Rosol Wahid.
"The effort to overthrow the government is futile now, a waste of time.
"Over a year has passed; we shouldn't still be talking about steps.
"I only say what is necessary, and I share it so the people know," he said.
It was reported that 'Dubai Move' was allegedly orchestrated by opposition party leaders, including certain government representatives, with the same goal of toppling the unity government led by Anwar.
In addition to opposition leaders, 'Dubai Move' was claimed to involve influential veteran political figures with the title Tun, who colluded with the opposition and was accused of using 'foreign sources' to overthrow the administration led by Anwar.
However, several Perikatan Nasional leaders have denied the existence of such a plan.
