Tanjong Karang MP Zulkafperi Hanapi declares support for Anwar

SHAH ALAM - Another Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) member of parliament today declared support for Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s leadership.

In a statement posted on Facebook, Tanjong Karang MP Datuk Dr Zulkafperi Hanapi expressed his support after realising the need for political stability and the smooth recovery of the country's economy, while also acknowledging the hardship being faced by the people and the rising cost of living.

He said the decision is to ensure the well-being of the people and development in the Tanjong Karang parliamentary constituency, adding that his support is expected to bring various benefits, including improved infrastructure and local needs.

"I also want to express support for the Madani government's policies and initiatives that prioritise the welfare, development, economy and interests of the people, until the next general election,” he said.

Zulkafperi, however, said that he remains loyal as a Bersatu member and will not betray the party.

However, to ensure plans for the Tanjong Karang parliamentary constituency is in line with the federal government’s, he said it would be appropriate for him to align with the leadership in Putrajaya led by Anwar.

"I also want to state that this declaration of support for the 10th Prime Minister's leadership is without any coercion or pressure from any party, and I do it wholeheartedly for the benefit of the people of Tanjong Karang,” he said.

Zulkafperi becomes the sixth opposition MP from Bersatu to declare support for Anwar's leadership after Datuk Syed Abu Hussin Hafiz Syed Abdul Fasal (Bukit Gantang), Zahari Kechik (Jeli), Mohd Azizi Abu Naim (Gua Musang), Datuk Iskandar Dzulkarnain Abdul Khalid (Kuala Kangsar) and Datuk Dr. Suhaili Abdul Rahman (Labuan). - BERNAMA
