Couple plunges from Penang Bridge following heated dispute

GEORGE TOWN - A couple miraculously survived after falling from the Penang Bridge on Monday night following an altercation in their car.

According to Perai Fire and Recue Department Officer II Shahrul Munawer Taharen, the incident was first reported to the at 7.49pm.

The event occurred at Kilometre 2.8 on the Penang Bridge, heading from the city centre towards Perai.

The couple, both in their thirties, were traveling in a Honda Civic and reportedly engaged in a heated argument.

The dispute escalated at a rest area on the bridge, resulting in both individuals falling into the sea below.

“A man present at the scene dove into the water to rescue them,” Shahrul said.

Simultaneously, a fishing boat was nearby where the couple fell.

“The couple was saved by the public-spirited individual who dived in. He helped them onto the fishing boat, which then transported them to the Batu Uban Jetty.
