SHAH ALAM - Former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad urges the individual who accused him of bribing the Yang di-Pertuan Agong to present evidence.

Describing the allegations as baseless, Dr Mahathir also criticised the individual for hiding his identity after spreading the allegations.

"On social media, it was said that I bribed the Yang di-Pertuan Agong with RM500 million to RM1 billion.

“Please prove that I did this. Making such a statement and hiding your identity is cowardly," he said in a Facebook post yesterday.

Dr Mahathir said that the person who made the slander seemed to be suggesting that the Yang di-Pertuan Agong should be arrested for accepting bribes from him.

"Does he have proof that the Agong took RM1 billion from me? Please also prove that I have money," he said.

In the meantime, Dr Mahathir cynically said that he had previously been accused of having a lot of money but could not prove it.

"As everyone knows (Datuk Seri) Anwar Ibrahim once said I have billions of ringgit.

"When asked to show proof that I have money, until now he has not been able to prove it.

"Now statements (are circulating) that I bribed the King with RM1 billion means that I have money. If Anwar has not been able to prove it until now, maybe the person who made the statement should show Anwar that I have money to bribe," he said.

He also commented on the actions of Anwar's Senior Political Secretary Datuk Seri Shamsul Iskandar Mohd Akin who made a police report about the removal of the Prime Minister should be banned.

"We cannot talk about the 3Rs. We cannot politicise the budget. Now we cannot talk about ousting the PM. So, no one can talk about anything.

"And this is a government led by a man who previously talked about reform, about freedom and others," he said cynically.
