Bersatu dismisses reports of PN MPs backing PM
SHAH ALAM - Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) refuted claims that at least eight opposition MPs will soon declare their support for Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
Its information chief Datuk Razali Idris said that based on numerous party meetings held, there was no indication whatsoever that any more members of the Perikatan Nasional (PN) coalition would shift their support.
"I am very confident that no more PN MPs will switch their allegiance to the Prime Minister because PN has moved on," he said yesterday.
Last month, Bukit Gantang MP Syed Abu Hussin Hafiz Syed Abdul announced that some opposition MPs from Malay-majority constituencies in several states planned on pledging their support for Anwar.
Hussin was the fifth Bersatu MP to have backed Anwar last year.
The other four were Datuk Iskandar Dzulkarnain Abdul Khalid (Kuala Kangsar), Datuk Suhaili Abdul Rahman (Labuan), Azizi Abu Naim (Gua Musang) and Zahari Kechik (Jeli).
