US presidential candidate Jill Stein, a force to be reckoned with as she stands against genocide in Palestine
SHAH ALAM - United States (US) presidential candidate Dr Jill Stein emerges as a formidable force, drawing attention for her unwavering commitment in standing against genocide against the Palestinians.
Calling for an immediate ceasefire, Stein condemned the Israeli assault on Gaza, describing the hardships endured by the Palestinians as unbearable.
The issue, she said has really been about ethnic cleansing and hijacking the land of the Palestinians from the get go.
She said as a doctor, watching people being killed and deprived of food and water did not sit right with her.
"As a healthcare provider, as a doctor, it completely freaks me out to know that we are on a death watch right now. We are on a death watch of two million people.
"You cannot deprive two million people of food and water and they have to flee, and then they're bombed while they flee and when they get to Southern Gaza where they were told to flee.
"This is calculated ethnic cleansing and genocide and it's got to be stopped.
"It has to be stopped if there 's any hope for humanity, if there's any hope for Israel as well as any hope for Gaza," she said in a video interview she posted on her Instagram account.
Stein also posted a video on Instagram saying that as a Jew, she grew up dedicated to the proposition that genocide would never happen again and it meant never again for anyone.
"I am so inspired and uplifted by seeing people like you who are not being silenced, because we know that Gaza's future is our future.
"We must have a ceasefire now. A supermajority wants that, but our elected officials, our 'misleaders', they are paid not to have a beating heart, not to have a breathing soul, not to have a thinking brain and we say shame on you and we are going to throw those bums out," she said in the video.
Stein, 74, is an American physician, activist and politician.
Born on May 14, 1950, in Chicago, Illinois, Stein graduated from Harvard University and has a background in internal medicine.
Her political career included running for office multiple times in the early 2000s, including a race for state representative in 2004, secretary of state in 2006 and Massachusetts' gubernatorial election in 2010.
In 2016, she was the Green Party nominee in the presidential race against Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton, receiving about one per cent of the popular vote.
In 2023, she announced her candidacy for the 2024 Green Party presidential nomination, presenting herself as a choice 'outside the failed two-party system'.
As an environmental activist, Stein's platform focused on combating climate change and supporting a Green New Deal.
She also supported an Economic Bill of Rights that would guarantee a living wage, housing, food, health care and education to tackle rising inequality and insecurity.
