'Why did someone target Nadia like this' - Acid attack victim's father
KUALA LUMPUR - Azman Shah Mohammad, 43, expressed profound sadness over the life-altering incident that befell his daughter, Nadia Fasha Qistina, 19, who was severely injured in an acid attack.
Nadia sustained serious injuries while returning from work in Denai Alam, Shah Alam, Selangor on Nov 8.
As a consequence of this brutal attack, Nadia has been undergoing extensive treatment at Sungai Buloh Hospital for almost two months, enduring eight surgeries to repair skin tissue and safeguard her eyes.
"After the acid attack on Nadia, the assailant fled, leaving my child in agony.
"Nadia suffered severe injuries to her face, body, and legs, necessitating eight surgeries," Azman told Sinar when met today.
Expressing his bewilderment over the senseless act, Azman stressed that Nadia, a recent employee at a clinic in Denai Alam for just six days, was attacked by an individual posing as an e-hailing worker.
"I cannot comprehend why someone would subject my daughter to such cruelty.
"Nadia is a good child, and I am baffled by the reasons for this treatment," he said.
To cover the substantial medical expenses for Nadia's surgeries and follow-up treatments at Sungai Buloh Hospital, Azman, a burger vendor, has had to bear significant costs.
He disclosed that he had spent RM32,000 to purchase eight pieces of skin tissue for the surgical procedures.
"I have exhausted all my savings, and the doctor informed me that my daughter may need to stay in the hospital for a year and rely on medications for the rest of her life," Azman added.
Compounding the family's challenges, Azman revealed that his wife fell ill and suffered panic attacks after the incident.
His wife is now receiving treatment at the same hospital as Nadia.
Azman urged the police to apprehend the perpetrator immediately, suspecting possible involvement by hired individuals.
Given that Nadia had only worked for six days and lacked contributions to Perkeso or self-protection insurance, Azman called for public assistance.
Those willing to support the family can contribute to the CIMB Bank account 7026639538 in the name of Azman Shah Mohammad.
Shah Alam district police chief Assistant Commissioner Mohd Iqbal Ibrahim confirmed the incident, noting the ongoing investigation.
