GOMBAK – Police have requested help from the International Police (Interpol) to analyse information and evidence obtained in the investigation of the murder of autistic child Zayn Rayyan Abdul Matiin.

Selangor Police Chief Datuk Hussein Omar Khan said the assistance involved information that had been obtained by the investigation team that required further investigation from the Interpol database.

"We have asked for help from Interpol regarding their database, we have some information although not comprehensive.

"We need more information from the database," he said in a press conference at the Gombak District Police Headquarters here on Saturday.

Hussein said that so far the police recorded statements from 225 individuals consisting of families and residents at Apartment Idaman Damansara Damai, Petaling Jaya.

"We also took a total of 248 deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) samples," he said.

Hussein said his team would not give up on investigating the case despite having limited evidence.

"As everyone knows the location where Zayn Rayyan's body was found is a 'secondary crime scene' and as a result, we have limited physical evidence and information. We are still tracking the 'primary crime scene'," he said.

He said the investigation process of the case has entered the third phase where the forensic team is now focusing on a specific unit in a specific block of the apartment.

"Throughout the investigation, 12 individuals were arrested, however, they had nothing to do with the child's murder case.

"Investigations are still being carried out every day in the area. We will continue the investigation until the perpetrator is arrested. Maybe not now, but we are confident that this perpetrator will be arrested," he said.

On Dec 6, the six-year-old victim was found dead in a creek near the apartment area at about 10pm.

Zayn was believed to have been murdered and was found by the authorities and residents who conducted an operation to find him.
