Bride-to-be dies after bike crashes into back of lorry
KEPALA BATAS - A woman died after the motorcycle she was riding crashed into a broken-down lorry at Kilometre 118.5 of the North-South Highway (northbound) here on Friday night.
In the 9.40pm incident, the victim Munirah Mohamad, 24, was confirmed dead at the scene due to severe head and body injuries.
Seberang Perai Utara District Police Chief Assistant Commissioner Mohd Asri Shafie said that the lorry was from Juru heading to Sungai Petani and stopped in the emergency lane when it broke down.
He said after 15 minutes, the victim, who was from the same direction crashed into the right side of the lorry.
"As a result of the collision, the victim suffered serious injuries to the head and body and was pronounced dead at the scene of the incident.
"An autopsy will be conducted at Kepala Batas Hospital's Forensic Unit before the body is released to family members," he said in a statement here on Saturday.
Earlier, a photo of the accident incident went viral on social media showing the condition of the victim's motorcycle stuck at the bottom of the lorry.
It is understood that the victim was from Mukim Jeneri, Sik and was on her way home from work.
In addition, social media users expressed sadness when they learned that the victim had just gotten engaged and was set to get married after the next Aidilfitri.
