SHAH ALAM – Umno refutes the allegations about the party being a ‘floormat’ for the Democratic Action Party (DAP) and considers it an accusation to weaken the administration of the unity government.

Umno Supreme Council member Datuk Dr Mohd Puad Zarkashi said that the accusations by Pas Youth Leader Afnan Hamimi were also an attempt to divide the relationship between the two parties Umno-DAP.

"Any controversial statements made by DAP leaders or members will be exploited by Pas.

"It is sometimes personal and just a suggestion. It is not yet certain to be implemented because it needs to be approved by the Cabinet. Umno will not agree if it is not in accordance with the party’s policy.

"There is a reason Umno is in the unity government because it is a stronghold to protect the interests of the Malays, Muslims and Malay Rulers as well as not exploiting religion like Pas," he said in a post on Facebook on Thursday.

Previously, Pas claimed that DAP was going uncontrollable with statements and actions that continued to incite anger of Malaysians, especially the Malays.

It started with a statement by DAP leaders Lim Guan Eng and M Kulasegaran that touched on the issue of re-demarcation of electoral areas.

Puad added Umno was not like Pas who had praised DAP when they worked together before.

"Lim Guan Eng was likened to Caliph Umar Abd Aziz. Afnan Hamimi also said that DAP is out of control. Actually, Pas is the one going out of control when they won more seats than Umno and Bersatu.

"Pas is getting more vicious, coming out with political fatwa that divides the Malays. Islamic teachings make it obligatory to pay debts, but it’s difficult for them to even pay Harakah debts." Puad said.
