MERSING - A woman and her four-year-old son were killed when the car they were travelling in skidded and spun before a lorry crashed into it at Kilometre 20 Jalan Nitar - Mersing here today.

Mersing district police chief Supt Abdul Razak Abdullah Sani identified the victims as Zubaidah Zakaria, 32, who was at the wheel of a Perodua Viva car and Uwais Rayyan Mohamad.

Both of them died at the scene due to severe head injuries, he said, adding that the police were informed about the crash involving the car and a 10-tonne Nissan UD lorry at about 8am.

"The result of the investigation found that the accident occurred when the car driven by Zubaidah, from the direction of Felda Nitar towards Bandar Mersing, lost control and skidded and spun before it was hit by an oncoming lorry,” he said in a statement today.

The lorry driver, identified as Mohd Yazid Abidin, 40, was reported to have sustained minor injuries in the crash. - BERNAMA
