IPOH - A male tiger that was suspected to be on the prowl in the Tonggang Orang Asli Village and the Ulu Kinta General Operations Force (GOF) Camp here since last week, was captured early today.

Perak Department of Wildlife and National Parks director Yusoff Shariff said the tiger, which was about four years old and weighed around 90 kilogrammes (kg), was captured after being shot with a tranquilliser dart.

"Perhilitan tried to chase away the animal but failed. The tiger was caught at around 4.30 am, about 500 metres from where the trap was set up.

"We believe this tiger is the same animal in the video that went viral a few days ago," he said when contacted.

Yusoff said the tiger will be sent to the National Wildlife Rescue Centre (NWRC) in Sungkai. - BERNAMA
