Chinese student assaulted by e-hailing driver in Kuantan seeks justice
NORAWAZNI YUSOFKUANTAN - A Chinese student, identified as Miss Yuan is seeking justice after a harrowing assault by an e-hailing driver here last Saturday.
The driver repeatedly attacked her with an iron folding chair, leaving her bruised and injured.
Fearing for her safety, Yuan immediately returned to her residence in Serdang, Selangor.
Due to the extent of her injuries, she received treatment at a Kuala Lumpur Hospital on Saturday and later contacted the Chinese Embassy for guidance.
"Two fingers in my right hand are fractured, and I have bruises on my face and body," she revealed at a press conference with Teruntum assemblyman Sim Chon Siang earlier today.
Yuan, an Economics major at Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) Serdang, filed a police report at the Kuantan district police headquarters on Monday.
She stressed the importance of apprehending the driver to prevent further passenger harm.
"I hope the Malaysian police will hold the driver accountable for his actions.
"I still receive unsettling messages even after the incident," she said, demanding medical compensation from the e-hailing company involved.
Yuan, along with a friend, had arrived in Kuantan on Friday for a weekend trip.
She recounted the driver's aggression, stating that he verbally attacked her before assaulting her en route to their hotel.
She remained perplexed by the driver's motive.
Chon Siang, who has been assisting Miss Yuan, facilitated her police report on Monday night.
He pledged his party's support in securing proper legal representation and covering any incurred expenses.
"We will assist with medical costs as needed, and the government will likely contribute as well.
"This incident reaching the Chinese Embassy damages Pahang's image, and we urge the government to take decisive action against the driver," Chon Siang explained.
Chon Siang also called on the police to implement measures to prevent future attacks, particularly against tourists visiting Pahang.
