SHAH ALAM - The Health Ministry (MoH) does not plan to repeat restrictions such as the Movement Control Order (MCO) to curb the current surge in Covid-19 infections.

Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad said the ministry would instead strengthen the Covid-19 Management Plan through five main strategies.

"We acknowledge that Malaysia has been seeing a sharp rise in Covid-19 cases. However, we hope that we can weather this without having to reinstate the MCO like before.

"For the time being, there has been no talk of reinstating the MCO," he said at a press conference on Covid-19 at the Health Ministry on Monday.

He also said that based on data from the 50th epidemiological week of 2023, from Dec 10 to Dec 16, Malaysia recorded 20,600 new cases which was a 62.2 per cent rise compared to last week.
