KUALA LUMPUR - Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Tan Sri Razarudin Husain assured the public of a transparent and fair investigation into the fatal accident in Ipoh, Perak, involving a senior police officer and a school student.

He said comprehensive investigation orders have been issued to the Ipoh district police chief, the Perak Police Chief, and the Bukit Aman Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department (JSPT) Director.

"The police will not shield anyone, regardless of rank, in this case," the top cop stressed. The involved officer, a Deputy Superintendent with the Kedah Contingent Police Headquarters, is currently under arrest and remanded for three days.

Seven student witnesses who directly observed the incident have had their statements recorded. The investigation falls under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987, but additional charges may be considered upon completion of the probe.

Reiterating the commitment to transparency, Razarudin urged any further witnesses to come forward with information at their nearest police station.
