Student killed in accident, senior police officer remanded for three days
IPOH - The senior police officer involved in the death of a student will be remanded for three days.
The student was and hit and crushed by a car on Jalan Taman Jati near Meru on Friday.
The remand order against the 44-year-old man was issued by Magistrate Farah Nabihah Muhammad Dan at the Ipoh District Police Headquarters (IPD) for the police to investigate the case.
The remand period starts today (Saturday) and ends next Monday.
On Friday, the senior officer on duty at the Kedah Contingent Police Headquarters (IPK) was detained for investigation under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
Ipoh District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Yahaya Hassan, said investigations will be carried out comprehensively including crimes leading to the offence of killing a person under Section 302 of the Penal Code.
The incident involved a Perodua Ativa car driven by the officer and a Yamaha motorcycle ridden by the victim.
In an incident at around 12.30 in the afternoon, Muhammad Zaharif Affendi Muhd Zamrie 17, who was a candidate for the Malaysian Certificate of Education (SPM) at the National Secondary School (SMK) Jati, died at the scene after his motorcycle was chased and hit from behind by a car.
It is understood that before the incident, there was a situation of dissatisfaction involving the driver of the car with the victim because of the noises the victim's motprcycle was making.
The situation resulted in the driver chasing the victim for almost a kilometre, and iis believed to have hit him from behind, causing the victim to fall and be run over for almost five metres.
