Monster croc shot dead in Lahad Datu

LAHAD DATU- A huge crocodile was shot dead by the Lahad Datu Wildlife Department (JHL) in an incident in Kampung Remang, here on Thursday night.

At about 10.30pm, a male copper crocodile measuring nearly five metres and nearly one metre wide was spotted at the back of a villager's house.

Lahad Datu Wildlife Officer Silvester Saimin said the crocodile was successfully caught as a result of information from the villagers.

" We monitored the situation and actually there was another crocodile behind the resident's house and eight shots were fired at 10.37pm.

"All the shots hit the crocodile before its carcass was taken to Wildlife Department housing to be disposed of," he said when contacted by Sinar, yesterday.

Silvester expressed his appreciation to the villagers who have cooperated in dealing with the crocodile conflict that has been disturbing the peace and threatening the safety of the villagers.

Last Tuesday, Sinar reported that a male crocodile which was nearly five metres long was shot dead on Monday night in an incident in Kampung Desa Bajau, here. The reptile was estimated to weigh 1.2 tonnes.
