Jobless man charged with murdering elderly parents

KUALA LUMPUR - A jobless man was charged in the magistrate's court, here, today with two counts of murdering his parents at their home last Saturday.

Afendi Muhammad Agus @ Muhamed Ali, 42, who was clad in a black T-shirt, nodded to indicate he understood the charges before magistrate Wong Chai Sia.

However, no plea was recorded as the case was under the High Court's jurisdiction.

According to the charges, Afendi was accused of causing the death of his father Muhammad Agus @ Muhamed Ali Omar, 82, who was a Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ) retiree and mother Darlisma Njatu Saleh, 72, who was a housewife.

He allegedly committed the offences in Kampung Sungai Penchala Jalan Penchala Hilir 6, here, at 7.10 and 7.20pm on Dec 9.

The charge framed under Section 302 of the Penal Code carries the death penalty, if convicted.

The prosecution was handled by deputy public prosecutor Vivien Yeap Jie Xi, while the accused was unrepresented.

No bail was granted to the accused and the court set Jan 31, next year for mention.

It was reported that on Saturday, the police confirmed receiving a report on a family dispute at about 7.43pm.

Unfortunately, an elderly couple, aged 72 and 82, were found dead in their living room, believed to be murdered by their son in Kampung Sungai Penchala, here, with several stab wounds on their bodies.

The police later confirmed that the suspect was arrested and investigation found that he had nine criminal records.

The suspect was also tested positive for amphetamine, methamphetamine and morphine.
