SHAH ALAM - Economy Minister Rafizi Ramli has thrown down the gauntlet by inviting a prominent pro-Perikatan Nasional (PN) TikTok user to engage in a fiery podcast debate.

The TikTok influencer, known as "YB Viral," has gained attention for regularly posting videos criticising the government and its policies.

In a bold move, Rafizi, also the PKR deputy president, addressed the growing threat posed by influencers who spread unsubstantiated claims on social media platforms, particularly TikTok.

He stressed the need for transparency and accountability in political discourse.

"Social media, especially TikTok, provides a platform for these influencers to spread baseless slanders and lies.

"They distort realities, attempting to influence public opinion on crucial matters," Rafizi said on his official Facebook account.

Expressing frustration with PN lawmakers who fail to provide evidence for their claims, Rafizi highlighted the importance of direct engagement with the public.

He warned that individuals spreading false information and those commenting on such posts could face legal consequences.

To illustrate his point, Rafizi singled out "YB Viral" as the focus of his "first experiment" to curb misinformation.

He disclosed that his office had formally invited the TikTok influencer to participate in a podcast debate titled 'Yang Bakar Menteri' (to burn ministers).

The session is tentatively scheduled for January 8 next year, to be broadcast live on Rafizi's social media channels.

"If he has the courage to accept the invitation, I am ready to provide him with ample opportunity to 'burn me' and substantiate his claims that I am the 'dumbest' minister," Rafizi declared, urging the TikTok user to engage in a constructive dialogue.

Rafizi ended his post by sharing a copy of the formal debate invitation letter, emphasising his commitment to open and accountable discussions.
