Lim family makes comeback to Finance Ministry as Hui Ying takes Deputy role
SHAH ALAM - The Lim family has once again assumed a role within the Finance Ministry, as Hui Ying was appointed to the position of Deputy Finance Minister.
Hui Ying who is DAP stalwart Lim Kit Siang's daughter who previously held the Deputy Education Minister portfolio has been moved to her current position following a reshuffle in Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim's Cabinet, today.
Her recent appointment came two years after her brother Guan Eng held the finance minister post during the Pakatan Harapan (PH) administration in 2018 after the 14th General Election (GE14).
Guang Eng held the position for two years - until 2020 and later this year revealed that then prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad had threatened to sack him as finance minister for pursuing three 'reform' initiatives during PH's maiden federal administration from 2018 to 2020.
Meanwhile, political analyst Oh Ei Sun dismissed the idea of DAP holding important positions, emphasising that it was essential for reappointments.
He said resuffles in the Cabinet to different positions were needed so that the government could do better.
"If you are always defensive about DAP holding the important portfolios then you will forever be in the defensive.
"So you need to appoint suitable and capable people to different positions such that the overall performance of the government could be better," he told Sinar Daily.
