Five men held over a fight in Penang
GEORGETOWN - The police have arrested five men, one of them badly injured, following a fight at the Jalan Sungai People’s Housing Project Flats here early today.
They recovered a pistol and a sharp object that was apparently used during the fight at about 2.30 am, said North East District Police acting chief Supt V. Saravanan.
He said the men, aged between 24 and 34, were being held under remand for four days for rioting and possession of a firearm.
The injured man was receiving treatment at the Penang Hospital.
Saravanan said the police received a call at 2.30 am about the fight and a team from the D9 Branch rushed to the location.
"There, the policemen found a man, with a pistol in one hand, bleeding from the head. They arrested him and sent him to hospital,” he said.
He also said that policemen chased a car with four men in it who were believed to have been involved in the fight and arrested them.
It is believed that the fight was over a misunderstanding among some men. - BERNAMA
