Community comes together to help mother, child living in car in Sungai Petani
SUNGAI PETANI - The plight of a mother in confinement living in a car with her child, which went viral on social media on Wednesday night, has caught the attention of Sungai Petani MP Dr Mohammed Taufiq Johari.
He said various parties such as the Kuala Muda district religious office, Murtadha Dakwah Centre (Madad), Social Welfare Department (JKM), Kedah State Zakat Board (LZNK) and several other agencies were working together to assist the woman.
"I am aware of the situation and am currently at the Dewan Rakyat (Parliament House).
"Today (Thursday) is the last day of the Parliament session. I will come down as soon as possible.
"This morning, officers from the Sungai Petani Parliament service centre went to deliver necessities such as food baskets, diapers and milk to their temporary residence," he was quoted as saying on X yesterday.
The family's predicament, involving their stay in a car at the Taman Ria Mosque with a four-day-old baby, gained widespread attention after the social media post about their situation went viral.
The mother and her children were temporarily staying at Madad, awaiting further assistance from the involved agencies.
Meanwhile, Madad managing director Mohammad Yaakub Yusra Mohd Yusof said they took the family to their dakwah centre around 10pm on Wednesday.
"The response from various parties towards this family's predicament has been heartening.
"It's important not to cast blame but to find the wisdom in such situations," he said.
Health Ministry officers had also examined the woman's baby.
