JOHOR BAHRU - In a heart-wrenching situation, a mother and her two young children, aged one and two, were rescued today from living beneath a Skudai flyover.

This incident came to light after a viral social media post showed the 39-year-old woman, identified only as Minah, and her children in a financially dire situation under the flyover.

Johor Bahru district Social Welfare Department (JKM) official said that the family had been sheltering under the flyover for almost a week.

Minah revealed that she had moved to Johor Bahru with her partner in search of employment opportunities.

Originating from Manjung, Perak, they had connections in Kampung Dato' Sulaiman Menteri, Johor Bahru, but still found themselves without a proper home due to financial constraints.

"They had to stay under the flyover because they couldn't afford to rent a room or a house.

"The woman also added that she had been looking for rental accommodation in the nearby area but didn't have the money to pay for rent," he said.

According to him, JKM officers also visited the rented room in Taman Ungku Tun Aminah (TUTA) and met with the room's owner.

"Immediate assistance of RM300 was provided to the family to cover the rental costs of the room since they were seen to have financial problems," he said.

Meanwhile, Skudai state representative Marina Ibrahim added that information about the family was received from the public before being forwarded to JKM.

"The community's quick information sharing enabled JKM to intervene and offer support swiftly.

"However, to ensure the accuracy of all details provided, authorities will collaborate with the police to confirm the couple's identities," she said.
