Johor Bersatu proposes a new post for Muhyiddin
SHAH ALAM - Johor Bersatu moots the establishment of a new post, called 'constitutional chairman' for Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin if the latter is still adamant in stepping down as president.
The suggestion was aired by Johor Bersatu information chief Muhammad Islahuddin Abas, at Bersatu's annual general meeting, here, following Muhyiddin's shocking resignation that was announced earlier today.
"As the representative from Johor Bersatu, we hope Tan Sri (Muhyiddin) remains as president but if he still wants to step down, then we suggest for the formation of a new post, the constitutional chairman," said Islahuddin, who is also Mersing MP, at a press conference.
In his announcement, Muhyiddin said that he will not be seeking re-election to defend his presidency in the upcoming party polls, stressing that this will be his last assembly as party president.
He said the decision was to provide space and opportunity for other emerging leaders to lead te party.
“I won’t be contesting and after over 30 years with political experience, I acknowledge the importance of diversifying leadership.
“I encourage other capable leaders, of various ages and calibres to step forward,” said Muhyiddin.
