Economic policies, poverty among issues to be discussed in PKR congress

SHAH ALAM - Economic policies and addressing poverty issues will be among the topics discussed in the Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) congress.

Speaking to Sinar Daily, PKR Communications Director Lee Chean Chung said the congress is an opportunity to relook and reflect on the party's aspirations to reform the country.

Lee said that economic policies will undoubtedly be a focal point, addressing on ways to continue to grow the economy while ensuring that the growth is inclusive to the majority of people.

"The PKR congress is an opportunity for us to relook and reflect on our aspirations to reform the country.

"We will also debate on how to accelerate our poverty elimination programme," he said.

Commenting further, former deputy health minister and Gopeng MP Dr Lee Boon Chye said the congress is a platform where the PKR grassroots are able to voice out their opinions on national politics, policies and party matters.

"This is also a platform for party leadership to explain the situation to the grassroots.

"Delegates from all over states are expected to come together to discuss and debate various topics related to party matters, the current political situation, and the roles that grassroots members can play in strengthening the party," he said.

On another matter, when asked on the alleged dissatisfaction among Chinese and Indian party members for being being sidelined in leadership roles, Lee declined to comment.

"I have no comments on this, so I leave it to the delegation whether they want to bring up for debate.

"Keadilan, as a party, thrives as a multi-racial platform, fighting for all beyond race. We all have to bear in mind the importance of this unity," he told Sinar Daily

Meanwhile, Lee Boon Chye responded that PKR party had no racial issues plaguing the party.

"We are a multi-racial party, and I have no comments on matter," he said.

It was reported on Nov 18 that an assemblyman from PKR said he hoped the party congress will discuss the role of non-Malay members and leaders, who seem to have been sidelined by the party in the past year.

The assemblyman, who wished toremain anonymous, said there has been dissatisfaction among Chinese and Indian members recently.
