'Coldplay's concert is not just about supporting Palestine'
KUALA LUMPUR - The Coldplay concert scheduled to take place on Wednesday at Bukit Jalil National Stadium, needs to take into account the hedonism culture that will be brought into society.
Ahmad Fadhli Shaari (PN-Pasir Mas) said that the right to organise the concert was not simply because Coldplay supported Palestine.
"The Prime Minister (Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim) mentioned that the group gives support to Palestine... It is not an issue of giving support or not to Palestine alone.
"But the culture of hedonism (an attitude or view of life that focuses on pleasure), which wants to be created in society.
"I think in the Palestinian issue today, bringing an international group into the country is not appropriate at the moment," he said in the Dewan Rakyat on Tuesday.
He said this during the debate session on the 2024 Supply Bill (Budget 2024) at the committee level for the Youth and Sports Ministry.
During the Prime Minister's Question Session this morning, Anwar told the Dewan Rakyat that he would discuss with the Mufti of the Federal Territory Datuk Prof Madya Dr Luqman Abdullah regarding the Coldplay concert.
Previously, Luqman was reported to have advised the public not to support the organisation of the concert, which is considered to be clearly against moral values and culture in this country.
He said, the organisation of the Coldplay Concert: Music Of The Spheres World Tour In Kuala Lumpur, was programme that did not have any benefits to the community.
In the meantime, Ahmad Fadhli said, the Youth and Sports Ministry should play a role in creating awareness among the youth, especially involving international musicians who support the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) cause.
"International musicians who are openly involved in LGBT issues, should not be here, it should not be encouraged.
"The youth should be avoided from getting involved in these matters especially now with the 'MR H' video controversy and so on. It is time our youth are reminded to avoid things like this," he said.
