SHAH ALAM - Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, the president of Parti Pribumi Bersatu, shared that the nickname ‘Abah’ is dear to him.

This term, translating to 'father' in English, is emotionally charged as it was his way of addressing his late father

Interestingly, ‘Abah’ also became a nickname he eventually adopted back when he was Malaysia’s eighth Prime Minister which began from March 2020 to August 2021.

“Everywhere I go now people still call me Abah,” he said in an exclusive interview with Sinar.

Muhyiddin acknowledged the informal use of ‘Abah’ as a way Malaysians express their appreciation for his leadership, especially during his tenure as PM in which the nation was beset and almost crippled by Covid-19.

“It is a humble acknowledgment of the genuine rapport that I share with the public,” he added.

When discussing performance and future goals for a unified Malaysia, Muhyiddin highlighted the party's recent electoral achievements, underscoring the foundational importance of honesty and integrity in their approach.

Addressing Perikatan Nasional (PN) MPs’ performance, Muhyiddin commended their dedication while acknowledging the need for improvement, particularly in understanding complex international issues.

"There is still potential for improvement, so that they become more intelligent, more outspoken, and knowledgeable about topics that are not only local or regional but global as well, like Palestine and ties with ASEAN nations,” he said.

On a scale of ten, Muhyiddin gave his political peers a seven.

“We are committed to provide opportunities and training for the newer MPs in Parliament, so that they can be more effective in serving the people’s interests,” said Muhyiddin.
