Refusal to be rescued due to fear; family threatened with murder

SHAH ALAM - Victims of a job scam syndicate at KK Garden, Myawaddy, Myanmar, revealed that they had previously declined an offer to return to their homeland when asked by a Malaysian.
A young man, identifying himself as Amirul who worked as a scammer for four months, stated that he and some other victims were forced to decline the offer, as the syndicate threatened their safety and their families if they dared to leave the area.
"Before this, Victor Wong (the Malaysian) had saved other victims.
"So, I hoped to be rescued as well.
"However, our efforts were discovered, and syndicate members made threats.
"Besides demanding compensation, they also threatened to kill family members, which forced us to endure," he said.
Amirul 19, from Batu Pahat, Johor, mentioned that he had witnessed two women being grabbed by the hair and beaten by syndicate members controlling the area.
Further explaining, Amirul highlighted that both women were also believed to be among the syndicate's victims wjo were conned.
"There were also instances of two women being beaten while in a four-wheel drive," he added.
