PUTRAJAYA - Kelantan Chief Minister Datuk Mohd Nassuruddin Daud arrives at the Palace of Justice here to attend the proceedings of a petition filed by lawyer Nik Elin Zurina Nik Abdul Rashid and her daughter, Tengku Yasmin Nastasha Tengku Abdul Rahman, against the Kelantan State Government.

Mohd Nassuruddin arrived at 9am accompanied by several individuals. Earlier, Nik Elin Zurina and several members of her legal team were seen arriving at 8:40am.

A panel of nine judges led by the Chief Justice, Tun Tengku Maimun Tuan Mat, will hear arguments from the Amicus Curiae, in the proceedings that began on August 17.

They include Sisters In Islam (SIS); the Islamic Religious Council and Malay Custom of Kelantan; and the Federal Territories Islamic Religious Council (MAIWP).

Nik Elin Zurina requested the Federal Court to declare that 20 sections of Sharia criminal offenses in the Sharia Criminal Code (I) Enactment of Kelantan 2019 are null and void. These provisions include Section 11 (destroying places of worship), Section 13 (selling or bequeathing a child to a non-Muslim or a Muslim with immoral conduct), and Section 14 (sodomy).

Other provisions include Section 15 (sodomy punishment), Section 16 (sex with a corpse), Section 17 (sex with a non-human), and Section 31 (sexual harassment).
