Ex-cop released from prison after serving sentence for murder of Along Spoon
AISYAH BASARUDDINKAJANG - Former inmate Mohamed Ya'cob Demyati, 57, who killed singer in the 90s, the late Along Spoon or Sabi'ul Malik Shafie has been released from the Kajang Prison at 6pm, today.
The former police corporal was transported out of the prison gate in a four-wheeled vehicle driven by his family member who left the area quickly avoiding the media who had waited outside the building since 4pm.
Attempts to get a statement from Ya’cob failed as the prison warden confirmed that he had already left.
Earlier, it was reported that his lawyer Che Muji Che Noh said Ya’cob had completed his 33-year jail sentence which ran from the date of his arrest on Jan 4, 2000.
Previously, in December 1999, the singer of the song "Rindu Serindu Rindunya" was reported missing at the age of 19.
After 10 days, the police found a human skeleton believed to be the body of Along which was tied in a sack on the slope of a hill at Kilometre 28 at Jalan Kuala Klawang-Genting Peras, Jelebu, Negeri Sembilan.
Meanwhile, Ya’cob’s close friend Zamri Mat Rosdi, 63, said he knew the former when they were serving together at the Forest Police Force (PPH) now known as the General Operations Force (PGA).
"I came to prison today to provide moral support to Akob (Ya'cob).
"I was quite surprised when he was released today because as far as I know, he was sentenced to 33 years jail, maybe because of good behaviour," he said.
